Adelaide might be famous for its wine – but its vegan food scene certainly isn’t far behind!

Ready to discover the best vegan-friendly restaurants Adelaide has to offer? From classic pub food and pizzas to KFC-style Korean bites and decadent sweet treats, Adelaide is starting to serve some seriously delicious vegan-friendly fare.

Whether you’re a vegan veteran or just dipping your toes into the world of plant-based dining, these top-notch spots will have you coming back for more. Let’s eat!

1. K-pub (CBD)

As you can probably guess from the name, this buzzing bistro is K-pop themed – but what you probably wouldn’t expect from a traditionally meat-heavy Korean restaurant is such an amazing spread of vegan options.

K-pub serves meat but offers a whole separate plant-based menu, making it an excellent option for a mixed group of omnivores and vegans.

Situated right in the city centre, the atmosphere here is fun and casual – and the same goes for the food. Pick from an impressive selection of relaxed yet addictive dishes, including vegan KFC-style chicken, kimchi pancakes, stir-fries, vegan prawns (!), ramen, and more.

2. Govinda’s Vegetarian/Vegan Restaurant (Kilburn)

I have six words for you: All-you-can-eat Indian buffet. Need I say more?

Run by the Hare Krishna temple in Kilburn, Govinda’s is a pared-back, cafeteria-style restaurant serving a different (fully vegetarian, mostly vegan) menu every night of the week.

Govinda’s ever-changing menu always includes a selection of nutritious, home-style plant-based curries, wholesome salads, and a few simple-yet-sweet desserts.

Whether you dine in or order takeaway, you’ll do a double take at the affordable price!

3. Kako Pizza (Prospect)

Okay, so I knew Kako Pizza had some vegan options, but I was unprepared for how many I’d find on the menu. Seriously – there are well over 20 different (and all delicious-sounding) vegan-friendly pizzas to choose from, as well as heaps of comforting pasta dishes and sides! Let the analysis paralysis commence 😅

Whether you’re after something simple like a vegan Margherita, a fancier option like a calabrese with melty vegan mozzarella, or a slice that’s practically drooping under the weight of vegan chicken or lamb strips, Kako Pizza has well and truly got you covered.

You’ll just have to keep coming back to try all the different options!

4. Part Time Lover (CBD)

One of the most popular vegan-friendly restaurants Adelaide is known for, Part Time Lover is a charmingly laid-back bar and restaurant with a breezy, California-inspired look, a welcoming atmosphere, and, best of all, a menu with a whole section dedicated to plant-forward options.

Hone in on the clearly labelled ‘plants’ section (about a third of the menu) for several standout dishes – like roasted veggies, fresh salads, and pan-fried roti – that are either already vegan or can be made vegan.

I highly recommend grabbing the corn ribs, popcorn, and broccoli. After the main course, make sure you save some room for sorbet.

5. Bakery on O’Connell (North Adelaide)

Open 24/7 (yes, really!), Bakery on O’Connell is an institution for late-night snackers, early risers, and everyone in between. With an ever-growing range of vegan pastries, sweet treats, and savoury goodies, this spot proves that plant-based baked goods can be just as indulgent as the classics.

Whether you’re after a flaky vegan croissant, a jam-filled donut, or a cheeky vegan pie, this North Adelaide gem has plenty to choose from.

6. Port Admiral Hotel (Port Adelaide)

This historic pub has had a glow-up, and it’s not just the charming old-school façade—it’s what’s on the menu! Port Admiral Hotel is serving up some seriously delicious vegan options alongside its classic pub fare, making it a top pick for plant-based pub-goers.

Think mouth-watering eggplant parmas, vegan bangers ‘n’ mash, juicy burgers – and even house-made vegan waffles and a plant-based affogato for dessert! Whether you’re kicking back with a craft beer or tucking into a plate of their famous cauliflower wings, this spot has you covered.

7. OMG Decadent Donuts (various locations)

Vegan, gluten-free, and completely drool-worthy, OMG Decadent Donuts live up to their name! These sugar-dusted delights are made fresh and come in various flavours, such as zesty lemon myrtle, rich chocolate, and spiced cinnamon.

You’ll find them popping up at local markets across Adelaide, so keep an eye out for their stall and grab a box (or two) while you can. One bite, and you’ll see what all the fuss is about!

Meet Liv!

Having grown up in a “meat and 3 veg” kind of household, Liv’s embarrassed to admit that she was a bit of a one-note chef until she began exploring the world of plant-based food. Vegan cooking has given her a whole new appreciation for the symphonies of flavours that simple, nourishing wholefood ingredients can create. (Even eggplant, once her greatest nemesis, is now — in a delicious, miso-glazed redemption arc — her all-time favourite veg.)
