Looking for a creamy dairy-free alternative to butter? There’s a whole spread to choose from in stores! Here are our top recommendations.

At a time when more than 40% of Aussie households have plant-based milk in the fridge, it figures that many of us are now looking for dairy-free alternatives to other products like butter, too.

And the great news is that thanks to this increase in demand, there are now plenty of plant-based butter options readily available in major supermarkets.

Most of these plant-based butter options are nearly indistinguishable from dairy butter: They’re spreadable, meltable, and remarkably similar in both flavour and texture. Essentially, they can do everything dairy butter can do … only butter better 😉

We’ve rounded up some of our favourite dairy-free butters for you to add to your shopping list:

Whether you’re making a buttercream frosting or a roux-based sauce, greasing a cake tin or making movie-style popcorn – or just need something to spread on your toast in the morning – you can’t go wrong with one of these utterly buttery plant-based products.

Want to make your own dairy-free butter at home?

It’s surprisingly easy! Try making this recipe for aquafaba-based butter, or this super quick recipe that uses coconut oil as the base. They’re both 100% plant-based and delicious – and the best thing is that they require precisely zero harm to cows, and no churning either!

Meet Maggie!

Maggie’s passion for fresh, local produce began in the 90s when she first harvested the oranges in her backyard for a glass of fresh-squeezed Florida orange juice — though her Dad may remember the details of labour a little differently. Now she adds berries to her chocolate and sneaks pumpkin into brownies so she can confidently and incorrectly refer to them as health foods.
