
American-style Home Fries Recipe
Show moreGimme fries with that! Golden, crispy, and packed with smoky, savoury goodness, these American-style home fries are the ultimate breakfast sidekick. With caramelised onion, sweet red capsicum, and a hit of spice, they’re hearty, satisfying, and totally addictive.
You will need
Serves 4
- 300g potatoes (e.g. desiree)
- 30ml vegetable or neutral oil
- 1/2 red capsicum, chopped
- 1 large brown onion, chopped
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp Old Bay seasoning
- Salt & pepper, to taste

Step 1
Chop the potatoes into bite-sized pieces, then place them in a pot of cold salted water. Bring to a boil and cook until just tender but not falling apart. Drain and set aside to cool.

While the potatoes cool, roughly chop the onion and capsicum into similar-sized pieces. Heat a large frying pan over high heat and add the oil. Toss in the capsicum, onion, and potatoes, frying until they start to develop colour. Sprinkle over the smoked paprika, garlic powder, Old Bay seasoning, salt, and pepper. Continue frying until the potatoes are golden and crispy on the outside.

Serve stacked high in a bowl or alongside your favourite savoury breakfast—think tofu scramble, avocado toast, or grilled tomatoes.
