If you’re serious about your chocolate, then this one’s for you! Using whole chocolate pieces, this decadent hug-in-a-mug has notes of citrus, and just a hint of chilli to keep you on your toes.
You will need
Serves 2
- 400g almond milk (or plant milk of choice)
- 100g vegan dark chocolate, roughly chopped
- 1/2 orange, zest only
- Pinch chilli powder
- Pinch turmeric
- 2 tablespoons dark brown sugar
- Chocolate-dipped dried oranges, to serve (optional, but recommended)
Recipe: Simon Toohey
Directions
-
Step 1
Place a mixing bowl over a pot of simmering water (but don’t allow the bowl to touch the water!) over a medium heat.
-
Step 2
Add chocolate, brown sugar, turmeric, chilli powder, and a splash of milk. Stir to bring all of the ingredients together as the chocolate melts.
-
Step 3
Add the orange zest and gradually add the milk one small splash at a time, stirring each portion though the chocolate completely before adding more milk.
-
Step 4
Pour hot chocolate through a sieve into each serving glass. If you’re feelin’ fancy, top it with a chocolate dipped orange crisp to serve.
